{"id":5615,"date":"2016-12-21T11:20:06","date_gmt":"2016-12-21T11:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.erjjiostudios.com\/rankfoundation.gridhosted.co.uk\/?p=260"},"modified":"2024-05-08T14:00:02","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T13:00:02","slug":"charity-of-the-month-december-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.erjjiostudios.com\/rankfoundation\/enterprise\/charity-of-the-month-december-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity of the Month &#8211; December 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dundee Comics Creative Space<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dundeecomicscreativespace.com\/\">Dundee Comics Creative Space (DCCS)<\/a>, developed by The University of Dundee, is a social enterprise which encourages learning through comics, supports aspiring comic artists and provides individuals with educational workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">What is our Relationship with DCCS?<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2015, The Rank Foundation have worked in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/dundeecomicscreativespace.com\/\">DCCS<\/a>, who have been really willing to engage in all the Foundation\u2019s projects. For instance, DCCS designed the front of The Rank Fellowship Charities Evening brochure (see picture), recently hired their first intern on our <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.erjjiostudios.com\/rankfoundation\/flagship-programmes\/time-2-shine\/\">Time to Shine<\/a> programme and supported Caitlin Mitchell, one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.erjjiostudios.com\/rankfoundation\/flagship-programmes\/leadership-awards\/\">Leadership Award Holders<\/a> on her CAP placement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Caitlin (see photo below of Caitlin out in Dundee delivering <a href=\"https:\/\/dundeecomicscreativespace.com\/\">DCCS<\/a> posters and flyers with DCCS Coordinator Damon Herd) thoroughly enjoyed her CAP placement and gained valuable skills by working at DCCS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>\u2018\u2019A highlight of my placement was getting to sit in on some of the workshops, both with young people and with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/advocatingtogetherdundee.co.uk\">Advocating Together <\/a>(another Rank-funded organisation), who are creating a comic about tackling disability hate crime with <a href=\"https:\/\/dundeecomicscreativespace.com\/\">DCCS<\/a>. It was fantastic to see how happy the young people are here and it showed how worthwhile DCCS is. I\u2019ve had a great time and I thank the team at DCCS for making me feel really welcome.\u2019\u2019<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>I\u2019ve also learnt lots of new skills, such as graphic design and website editing, which I will definitely use in the <\/i><i>future. During my placement I\u2019ve worked closely with other people in <a href=\"https:\/\/dundeecomicscreativespace.com\/\">DCCS<\/a>, such as working out social media strategies with Damon Herd the Coordinator, which helped develop teamwork skills. I\u2019ve also done some individual work where I needed to be innovative and confident in myself, such as creating interview questions for each of the different groups of people I profiled.\u2019&#8217;<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more on Caitlin&#8217;s experience during her <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.erjjiostudios.com\/rankfoundation\/flagship-programmes\/leadership-awards\/\">CAP<\/a> placement, please see the comic below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Caitlin\u2019s CAP placement also made a positive&nbsp;impact on <a href=\"https:\/\/dundeecomicscreativespace.com\/\">DCCS<\/a>, as explained by Damon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>\u2018\u2019Caitlin&#8217;s main achievement was boosting the public profile of <a href=\"https:\/\/dundeecomicscreativespace.com\/\">DCCS<\/a> and the work we do here. She did this through a concentrated burst of blog posts on our website and social media platforms, designing the graphics for new print media and by interviewing staff, artists and the young people who attend our Comic Clubs and using this material in her promotional blog posts.
