Senior Sustainability Consultant – Oxfordshire

January 9, 2023 by Simon Rainsford Leave a Comment

We are currently seeking a Senior Sustainability Consultant to work within our sustainability team, based in our office on Howbery Park, Wallingford, Oxfordshire.  The position is an immediate start.

The Company

Envision is a leading sustainability and energy consultancy that provides specialist support towards sustainability within the built environment.  We were founded in 2012 by directors of a multi-disciplinary planning and engineering consultancy and have steadily grown into a well-established company.  Unlike many sustainability consultancies that have developed as a ‘support service’ to larger practices, Envision specialises in providing end-to-end support to its real estate clients. We pride ourselves on fostering a flexible, creative and fun working environment.

We bring together a range of technical disciplines to advise clients on their ESG policies, to manage their real estate portfolio and develop sustainability and energy strategies for new and existing developments. We combine this with our expert team of building service engineers and structural engineers to deliver low and net zero carbon solutions for our clients, helping them meet their net zero ambitions as well as wider support on ESG policy implementation, leading to improvements in their GRESB ratings.

As part of our sustainability offering, our services include the provision of a full range of environmental and health and wellbeing assessment methods including BREEAM (including In-Use), Home Quality Mark, CEEQUAL, WELL and FitWel. We also help develop Net Zero Carbon Strategies, undertaking Whole Life Cycle Assessments and Operational Energy Assessments. One of our Directors was one of the first in the UK to become a NABERS Assessor and is currently working in the cross-industry body developing the UK’s first Net Zero Carbon Building Standard.

We take pride in our pro-active approach, supporting our clients with close and tailored support.  Our pragmatic and hands-on approach means that we are retained by the largest UK property funds, publicly listed developers as well as leading constructors.

Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced sustainability consultant looking to take the next step in their career. You will join our growing team to work on a diverse range of projects in the UK and internationally, with responsibility for delivering your own projects and helping to guide the team across both the Oxfordshire and London offices. The role is very wide ranging, working on ESG strategies, planning applications and live construction projects.

Working closely with colleagues of various disciplines across both offices, you will take the lead on sustainability projects – developing concepts, reports and presenting to clients. You will ensure the successful delivery of innovative sustainable and low-carbon design solutions to quality standards and deadlines. You will receive continual support from senior members of staff, along with access to our in-house training programme allowing you to continue your professional development.

This role will enable you to have an impact across a variety of sectors in the built environment, with the opportunity for greater levels of responsibility and autonomy. This is a pivotal role within our growing team, and we are looking for someone with the right skills and experience to join our office in Oxfordshire. We are based on Howbery Park, an award winning science and technology business park on the edge of Wallingford, and work very closely with the team in London. The role is ideally suited for someone looking to take the next step in their career, including someone thinking of  moving out of London but not wanting to lose the connections with working on prestigious, high profile projects.

About You

Educated to degree level in the field of sustainability and environmental science, you will have gained significant demonstrable experience in a sustainability consultancy role within the built environment. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, possess excellent communication skills and look to develop their ongoing professional qualifications.

Essential Requirements:

  • 4-6 years’ experience in a similar sustainability role (although applications from exceptional candidates with less experience will also be considered).
  • Experience of working on BREEAM assessments through to certification, with BREEAM Assessor and/or BREEAM AP qualification.
  • Experience of working on ESG strategies for real estate clients.
  • Good communication/presentation skills and excellent report writing skills.
  • Understanding of client requirements/project objectives.
  • Good knowledge of the sustainability related statutory legislation, standards, and drivers in the construction industry.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.

Preferential:

  • Knowledge and application of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Home Quality Mark and WELL/FitWel assessments.
  • Understanding of Part L & Dynamic Simulation Modelling.
The Offer

Salary: £45k+
Benefits: Company health insurance and pension, social events, flexible working.
Contract: Permanent.
Location: Howbery Park, Wallingford, Oxfordshire (OX10 8BA).
