Becoming certified on the National Fire Risk Assessors Register demonstrates your professional competence and commitment to maintaining the highest standards in fire safety management.
All applicants undergo a structured competency review process designed to ensure consistent, transparent, and fair assessment at every level.
How to Apply
The application form will guide you through a series of questions to identify the correct level for your experience — whether Foundation, Intermediate, or Advanced. Further details can be found in the NFRAR policy and guidance.
Before you begin, please make sure you have the following documents and information ready to upload:
You’ll Need to Provide:
- Two Fire Risk Assessments
Examples must represent the highest level of complexity you currently carry out. These are reviewed as part of your competency evaluation. - Your CPD Record
A record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) covering at least the last 12 months. - Professional Indemnity Insurance
Proof of valid, in-date insurance. The certificate must clearly display the expiry date and level of cover. - Fire Safety–Related CV
An up-to-date CV focusing on your relevant qualifications, experience, and current professional role. - Qualifications and Certifications
Upload copies of any relevant training certificates, professional qualifications, or third-party certifications (e.g. IFSM, IFE, or BAFE).- If you are a BAFE validator, you must upload a current, in-date letter confirming that you are an approved validator with your present company.
- Photo ID
A valid form of identification (passport, driving licence, or similar) is required for the online ID verification process. - Professional Profile Photo
A clear, passport-style image that will appear on your digital membership card and public register profile.
Application Process
- Start the Application Form
The online form will adapt dynamically based on your responses, guiding you to the appropriate application route. - Upload Your Documents
Each stage will prompt you to attach your supporting evidence. You can save progress and return if needed. - Verification and Review
Once submitted, your application is reviewed by the NFRAR team.- Foundation: Document verification and eligibility check
- Intermediate: Fire Risk Assessment Review and completion of competency assessments.
- Advanced: Fire Risk Assessment review and Verification of UKAS or equivalent certification
- Outcome and Certification
Approved applicants receive:- A digital certificate and membership card
- A public profile on the NFRAR
- Annual reminders for CPD and insurance renewal

- Incomplete or low-resolution uploads are the most common reason for processing delays. Please check that all documents are clear, legible, and current before you apply.
- Once your application form has been submitted you can login and check your application progress at any time.

Refund terms:
- The administration fee is non-refundable. The applicant must read the policy and guidance in full before making an application. A partial refund may be considered if the applicant has not undergone competency assessments or has switched application routes.
- The annual fee is subject to a full refund if requested within 14 days of payment.
- If a registrant is removed from the register partway through the year, no partial or annual fee refund will be given.
